Reading Power’s success story is an exciting one!

Over the past thirteen years, 2,212 children who struggled to

read and write have received

one –to- one tutoring, accelerating their learning and changing their lives and tutors' alike in incalculable ways.

Our success is documented both quantitatively and qualitatively. In addition to tutoring, Reading Power serves as an advocate for our students, distributes books for children to own, keeps in contact with parents, and works closely with school officials.

The future is filled with promise and challenge.  More tutors will be recruited and, in time, more schools will be added. The coming years will build upon our prior success as we expand and fine tune each facet of what is already an excellent program.

Victor Hugo once said that "to learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark". At Reading Power, I have watched that spark light and burn. Children come to Reading Power, excited and willing, and slowly, sometimes painstakingly, they acquire the skills, the self-discipline and, the joy of reading. As a tutor, watching their progress and growth does as much for me as for them. It renews my love of reading to share this skill and open children's hearts to reading. For in sharing this skill, I share a path to friendship, to imagination, to better citizenship.

I watch Reading Power work collaboratively with the schools where they are located, putting kids first, and I watch with my own eyes students' enhanced abilities. I am happy, too, to be a donor to Reading Power. They stretch my dollars in the best way, towards good things--better skills, better friendships, better citizens.

I can't think of a better organization for my time or my treasure.
