COVID-19 RESPONSE
For the 2020-21 school year, in response to COVID school closures, we have adapted our program to include a virtual tutoring model. After a successful summer pilot, we are working with our school partners and tutors to bring this virtual model to struggling readers in Lake County during this time of distance learning. The virtual model maintains the hallmark of Reading Power: meeting students’ individual needs through lesson design that is immediately responsive to the student. Commercially developed online tutoring programs do not allow for this type of student-centered instruction. We have launched one-to-one tutoring in two schools and are thrilled to report that they are making gains and fully engaged virtually as in person. And we are buying more new books than ever before in an effort to build home libraries of appropriate books. Your donations are making all of this possible, and we are so grateful. Our work will be even more important moving forward, as more children will need support catching up. All children deserve to reach their intellectual potential! |

Donations by CHECK should be mailed to: Reading Power Inc. 736 N. Western Avenue Lake Forest, IL 60045 Click here to Donate STOCK. Click here for Planned Giving. Reading Power is a nonprofit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization, EIN: 20-2916846. All contributions are tax deductible. I have been a tutor/donor since the beginning and am a former board director. As a longtime tutor, I have seen Reading Power grow into a multi-school program with almost 200 tutors. I have watched our students' reading comprehension advance dramatically during each year and, equally important, seen their self-confidence and social skills grow significantly as well. The students clearly enjoy the program and look forward to the one-to-one learning experience." |
